When we started the idea of the toy library (Ludoteca) in Venezuela back in 2017, our plan was to function similarly to a Ludoteca in Europe: children can borrow toys to take home and return them after a few days. Well, finally that day has come for Tepui!
Looking back, we tried several times to start it, and several times we realized that the circumstances were not right: our initial Ludotecas were functioning within schools, therefore additional aspects needed to be taken in consideration. And even once we opened our independent Ludoteca in Los Olivos last year, we waited a bit more.
Although that frustrated us a little, we waited for the management of the Ludoteca to mature a little more, we refined the concept and discussed as a team the original regulations; we doubted, we questioned ourselves, we insisted and we trusted... and now yes, the TEPUI Ludoteca in Los Olivos initiated the lending of toys and materials.
What does that mean? In a nutshell it means that children can borrow a toy and take home to play and share with the family, and return it after a few days back to the ludoteca. Wonderful isn’t it?
The Ludoteca in Los Olivos lends an important part of its content to its users, who together with their representatives commit themselves -in writing so that there is no misunderstanding- to take care of them while they enjoy them at home, with their family and friends, or individually.
The important thing is done. Now, in addition to having a Ludoteca open for enjoyment Monday through Saturday afternoons, the little ones can choose reading materials, strollers, board games, dolls, stuffed animals and even costumes to take home and return them after several days, thus extending the benefit of free and spontaneous play anywhere.
We are happy with this. On the one hand, the Ludototeca daily routine is expanding, growing and diversifying. At the same time, the circulating loan generates co-responsibility, commitment and greater respect on the part of the adults and children who attend our play space.
We have already begun to see the results: the first loaned materials were returned within the established period, with effusive gratitude and laughing anecdotes shared by some of the children to the delight of the rest. And best of all, everything was returned complete to its original place, in perfect condition, ready and available again for other users who also wish to take them home.
Of course we are happy. Now the toy library goes for walks to the homes of its users, visits other streets and accompanies families in the intimacy of their homes. The games and toys come and go for each other, in the hands of the children themselves who choose them, take care of them and return them.
Yupieeee!!!.
LOS JUEGOS, JUGUETES Y LIBROS AHORA VAN A PASEAR TAMBIEN
Aunque ya en el proyecto original de finales de 2017 aparece la idea de prestar los materiales lúdicos que contendrían las ludotecas TEPUI, no ha sido sido sino hasta ahora, seis años después, cuando hemos puesto en práctica lo que denominamos el préstamo circulante de juegos, juguetes y libros.
Al echar la vista atrás nos damos cuenta que varias veces lo intentamos arrancar, y varias veces nos dimos cuenta de que las circunstancias no estaban dadas. Aunque eso nos frustró un poco, esperamos madurar un poco más la propia gestión interna de la ludoteca, afinamos el concepto y discutimos en equipo la normativa originalmente trazada; dudamos, nos repreguntamos, insistimos y confiamos…y ahora sí, la ludoteca TEPUI en Los Olivos presta una parte importante de su contenido a sus usuarios, quienes junto con sus representantes se comprometen -por escrito para que no haya malentendido alguno- a cuidarlos mientras los disfrutan en casa, con su familia y amigos, o individualmente.
Lo importante está hecho. Ahora además de disponer de una ludoteca abierta para el disfrute de lunes a sábado durante las tardes, los peques pueden escoger lecturas, carritos, juegos de mesa, muñecas, peluches y hasta disfraces para llevar a casa y retornarlos luego de varios días, extendiendo así el beneficio de jugar libre y espontáneamente en cualquier lugar.
Estamos contentos con esto. La rutina de la ludoteca se amplía, crece y diversifica, por una parte. Al mismo tiempo, el préstamo circulante genera co-responsabilidad, compromiso y un mayor respeto por parte de los adultos y niños que asisten a nuestro espacio lúdico.
Ya comenzamos a ver sus resultados: los primeros materiales prestados fueron devueltos en el lapso establecido, con efusivo agradecimiento y anécdotas risueñas que compartieron algunos de los niños para beneplácito del resto. Y lo mejor, todo volvió completo a su sitio original, en perfecto estado, listo y disponible nuevamente para otros usuarios que también deseen llevarlos a sus casas.
Por supuesto que estamos contentos. Ahora la ludoteca sale a pasear a casas de sus usuarios, visita otras calles y acompaña familias en la intimidad de sus hogares. Los juegos y juguetes van y vienen para unos y otros, en manos de los propios niños que los escogen, cuidan y devuelven.
